School construction in Nyenga
Nyenga, Buikwe district October 10 - October 24, 2020
Volunteer project: The volunteers in this project will help a Primary School located in Buikwe district, east of Kampala. The main source of income and livelihood for the community around is fishing. The project is about improving the educational opportunities and environment for the children of the fishing community.
The number of students in the school is growing fast, and has risen from 500 to 750 in the recent years. The teacher pupil ratio is 1:70. The school has no permanent structures. This situation is calling for immediate intervention for bridging the gap. We have already made over 20,000 bricks, but there’s still much to be done. Through the volunteer project we intend to mobilize the community and improve the quality of infrastructure in the primary school.
Volunteers’ main activities will be construction of classrooms, site leveling and landscaping.
