Volunteer opportunities in Austria

Construction of an experience trail in the Austrian Alps

Walsertal          June 27 - July 10, 2010

Volunteer project: The project will take place in the biosphere park “Grosses Walsertal” in Vorarlberg (Austria). It is a model region for sustainable development in the alpine area, and was certified as UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. In the beautiful mountainous surrounding, an international group will come together – not only to experience life in the Alps but work on a very special project: A theme trail to experience sound and echo in different ways at different stations on the trail.

There will be a variety of tasks to be done. You will help set the trail, lay ground and work on different stations. It's planned to have sounding pipes hung up above a small mountain stream, for example. Be sure, it will be a rather interesting project and a lot to discover. Some of the work takes place in steep areas. Volunteers should be free from giddiness!

Language: English

Accommodation: Either in a house on top of the mountain (top station) or a house in the valley.

Location: The Biosphere Reserve “Grosses Walsertal” is located in a part of Austria which is called Vorarlberg, in the Alps. Vorarlberg is the westernmost state of Austria. It borders three countries - Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The mountainous landscape is famous for skiing in wintertime and hiking in summertime.

The project will be situated in the small town of Sonntag – mostly taking place in the mountains. Therefore, you will have the astounding nature to discover first hand as soon as you step out of the door.

Next train station: Bludenz

Next airport: Zurich (CH), Basel (CH), Munich

Age range: 18 - 30 years old (exceptions for volunteers over 30 can be made)
