Protection
of fir tree forest in Auvergne
Volunteer project: The town of Claux owns a 12- hectare
plantation of fir trees which has to be cleaned in order to facilitate
hikes through the forest. Given that it already organized a workcamp
several years ago, it wishes to make young volunteers intervene in this
project.
In the frame of this project volunteers will be involved in clearing
among fir trees: removing of shrubs and small trees. The group will be
guided by a communal employee and a forest warden of the ONF (national
office of the forests).
Camp language: French and English
Possible free time activities:
- On the spot: hikes (tour du cantal), bicycle, fishing, tennis
courses, ping pong, parapente, climbing, horse-riding, visit of the
Maison la Montagne, meeting with the workcamp in Apchon.
- In the towns nearby: visit of the 2 cascades (Roche and Sartre). 5 km
away from Claux: visit of the lake of cascades, pedal boats, boats.
Further: hikes to the Puy Mary, visit of Riom es Montagne, Murat,
Salers, Aurillac.
Accommodation: In a communal building. Lodging at the workcamp site,
isolated from the village.
Location: Small village of 260 inhabitants, 70 km north-east of
Aurillac. Altitude: 1050 m. At the heart of the regional natural park of
the Auvergne volcanos, Le Claux is a lovely village close to the Massif
of the Puy Mary, future huge national site. The superb glacial valley in
which Le Claux is located, has many advantages, making its landscapes of
medium mountains a genuine paradise for lovers of nature and big spaces.

Restoration of
river banks
Volunteer project: This very dynamic
village has a rich heritage and offers to people a nice way of life. The
municipality wishes to put as a priority the
renovation of the banks of "La Santoire" in order to repair touristic footpaths.
It is the second time that the village hosts a workcamp and wishes to put the
accent on real exchanges of traditions and cultures.
You are going to carry out the following
tasks: maintenance of river banks, painting of sanitary block at the camping
grounds.
Camp language: French and English
Possible free time activities:
- On the spot: market place in summer every Wednesday, George de La Sanitoire
and Rhue, visit of the Roche Pointue, Lac Moine, tennis, mini golf, swimming in
the river, botanical footpaths in the surroundings,
- Workshops at St Amandin (4 km), leisure center with a pool in Lastioulle (12
km),
- Visit of Riom es Montagne, Murat, Bort les orgues, Lac Pavin, Puy Maris et Puy
Griou.
Accommodation: Under tents at the camping grounds, kitchen nearby.
Location: At the crossroads of the Rhue river and La Sanitoire, Condat is
a green valley surrounded by hundred-year-old beech trees. Closest city is
Aurillac (80 km).

Reopening of a footpath
Volunteer project: The volunteer group will work on the reopening of a footpath.
The planned activities include clearing, carrying of
branches, laying out.
Camp language: French and English
Accommodation: In a school.
Location: 6 km south of the Riom-es-Montagne.
Nearest train station: Neussargues

LAROQUE D'OLMES August 28 - September 17, 2005
Laying
out of a village centre
Volunteer project: Volunteers will carry out various laying out works in the village centre
among which
rebuilding of small stone walls and cleaning of a stream. NB: isolated
location.
Camp language: French and English
Accommodation: In the village school.
Location: 25 km east of Foix.
Nearest train station: Foix
Age range: 18 - 30 years old
